Timber War
Although not the most accomplished horse ever, he's still considered one of the greats. He only raced 5 times in his career, and won only one graded stakes, the DeCo Cup Classic. He is considered one of the greats for beating the only Triple Crown winner (so far), Mind That Bird. He was owned and trained by Bobby Frankel, and was planning on a 2010 campaign, but injury forced him to retire. He now stands at stud, and while the DHRA original horses haven't been great with breeding, the 2015 year is being considered the start for DHRA original sires.
Mind That Bird
Mind That Bird might be considered THE best ever, but his career after winning the Triple Crown was lackluster. He and Calvin Borel weren't even challenged in winning the 3 races, all by more than 3 lengths. After that, he was the heavy favorite for the DeCo Cup Classic, but lost by a length to Timber War. He had a few injuries, and made his comeback in late 2011, winning 2 allowances, and then finishing 4th in the 2012 DeCo Cup Dirt Mile. He was retired following that, and went to stud in 2012. His offspring race for the first time in 2015.
Butcherman
His greatness was long lived, but it didn't start that way. He came into the 2011 DeCo Stakes, and ran a disappointing 16th. Then, once more a longshot, the colt ran away with the Pioneer Derby, by 5 lengths. He then won a hard fought battle in the DeCo Triple Crown Stakes, beating Did I Land by 1/2 length. In the DeCo Cup Classic, he and Did I Land battled again, Butcherman prevailing again. In 2012, he came in for a title defense, but he and Ramon Dominguez missed by a nose to I'm A Devil. In 2013, he once more entered the Classic searching for a victory, but once more missed by a nose finishing 3rd with Rosie Napravnik aboard. He was retired in early 2014 following a disappointing 3rd in the Mind That Bird Stakes.
American Attack
The Winstar dynasty in the DHRA was elevated even more with American Attack. At only 3, he won the 2011 DeCo Cup Turf, but an injury after that kept him out the rest of the year. He made a brief return in 2012, but never returned to his old form. He has stood as stud since 2013.
George Walington
He only made his mark in the DeCo Cup, but he was great when he did it. The first major appearance was in 2009, when he ran a credible 2nd to Overtime Drive, finishing only 1/2 a length behind. The absence of a 2010 Turf made connections ponder retirement, but decided against it. He would finish 4th in 2011, and once more thought of retirement, but again said no. The decision paid off, and he won the DeCo Cup Turf by a length in 2012. He retired after that, and has stood at stud since 2013.
Hula Vista
The most successful mare to date, she won the first two runnings of the DeCo Cup Ladies Classic. She and Joe Talamo ran away with the first edition of the race by 2 lengths. The next year, in a title defense, and a tour de force, she ran away by 5 to win, marking her self as one of the best of all time. Her first foal is yet to hit the track for owner Jerry Moss.
Aggressive Miss
The first winner of the DeCo Cup Filly & Mare Turf, she was trained by Kiaran McLaughlin and owned by Godolphin. Although that's as far as her racing stats go, her pedigree includes great turf horses dating back many years, and her first foal races in 2015.
Jasinova
She only won 3 races, but was thought to be one of the best ever at her time, but an injury after her biggest career race kept that talent hidden. She and Joe Talamo stalked the pace, then broke away to a 7 length win in the 2009 DeCo Cup Juvenile Fillies. Her offspring consists of only 2 horses, but two great horses, Dr. Horton Phillips and Actor's Passion.
Mollie's Mate
Although she never won a DC, and although her lone race in the DC was on dirt, she's considered one of the better turf horses of her time. She won 3 Grade 1's in all on turf, the biggest being the New York Stakes at Saratoga Springs. She retired after that and has had 2 DeCo Cup winning horses, Am I Right and Dunsrin.
